July 9, 2011 at Yankee stadium started as every other gameday did. The grounds crew prepared the field, the vendors stocked their trays with peanuts and crackerjacks, and Derek Jeter, the Prince of the Bronx prepared for his game. Could this be the day?

Mr. 3000

Indeed it was.

The Yankee captain went 5-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Including knocking number 3000 out of the park in the bottom of the third on a full count pitch, ala Robert Redford in The Natural. While Jeter’s parents and hot Maxim cover girlfriend watched from the captain’s suite at Yankee Stadium, the Pinstripe Prince went yard in a way that only a Yankee could do: with dramatic fashion. “It was just like in the movies” one Yankee fan stated.

Joining Wade Boggs as the only two Yankees in history to hit number 3000 with a homer, Jeter is the 28th player in history to reach the milestone.

A big congratulations goes to the Bombers Captain and future King of the Bronx…move aside Babe, Jeter will be taking over the throne soon.

You can relive the magic here.
